Vernal Pool Exploration below High Bridge
(Prince Edward, VA)… Explore amphibian life cycles and also see aquatic invertebrates such as fairy shrimp on a visit to our vernal pools below High Bridge, on Saturday, March 11, 2017. In the cool of late winter, frogs and salamanders make their way to these temporary bodies of water of the wooded low ground to lay their eggs. This area of our park has an abundance of vernal pools formed in depressions left by construction during the 1850s. Longwood University Professor Dr. Sujan Henk will aid visitors with the search and identification of astonishing life forms in these important ecosystems. Visitors will meet at the Camp Paradise Parking Access at 10 a.m. Be prepared for wet conditions, and a round trip hike of about a mile.
This event is free, but a parking fee of $4 does apply. For more information about this event or any others, please contact the High Bridge Trail State Park office at 434-315-0457 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
