The Department of Public Works operates three citizen convenience centers to receive household trash and recyclable materials from households in Cumberland County (click here for a map of all three centers).


Randolph Convenience Center

These centers are for citizens bringing trash and recyclables originating from their residence. All of these centers are staffed full-time to assist any citizen who needs help.

Requirements for Use

The Cumberland Convenience Centers are strictly for residential use. A valid Cumberland County personal property decal on the windshield of the vehicle or a valid driver's license is considered proof that the customer is a resident. Commercial usage of the public use areas is a violation of the County Code and the Virginia Department Environmental Quality (DEQ) Solid Waste Management Regulations.

Fees for Usage

There is no cost to Cumberland residents for normal residential trash disposal or recycling. Fees do apply for tire disposal (see below).

Hours of Operation


Beginning July 1, 2010, citizens of Cumberland County will have access to Madison transfer station (Courthouse area) seven days a week.   New hours of operation for all stations will be as follows:

Madison Transfer Station     – Monday – Friday - 8-5 
(Cumberland Courthouse location)       Saturday & Sunday – 8-3

Hamilton Transfer Station   – Monday, Wednesday and Friday – 8-5 
(Cartersville location)                           Saturday – 8-3
Sunday, Tuesday & Thursday – Closed

Randolph Transfer Station -   Monday, Wednesday and Friday – 8-5 
(Cumberland Road location)                 Saturday – 8-3
Sunday, Tuesday & Thursday – Closed

We are closed on certain holidays. In addition, to ensure your safety, we do not operate our citizen convenience centers when the County is closed due to inclement weather.

Materials Accepted for Disposal

We accept solid waste generated from homes of Cumberland County residents. This material is to be placed directly in the refuse containers.
