Cumberland, VA – On Tuesday, October 10, 2023, the Cumberland County Board of Supervisors authorized the Cumberland County Administrator to execute a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Central Virginia Regional Library (CVRL) and Cumberland County Public Library.
The MOU will allow for the Cumberland County Public Library to join the Central Virginia Regional Library system effective January 1, 2024. CVRL is currently comprised of two other libraries located in Buckingham County and Prince Edward County/Town of Farmville. This initiative will allow the services, programming and opportunities for Cumberland’s Library to continue at a high level after the recent passing of its Director, Mrs. Lisa Davis.
The MOU defines the transfer and ownership of the library’s assets and operational capacities after the dissolution of the current Cumberland County Public Library 501 (c)(3). Cumberland County will own and maintain operational assets such as the existing building and grounds while Central Virginia Regional Library will maintain the library’s services-based assets.
Moving forward the Cumberland County Public Library will have access to CVRL’s library programs, libraries at Hampden-Sydney College and Longwood University as well as additional resources by the Library of Virginia.
“The Board of Supervisors are committed to maintaining and increasing educational and quality of life opportunities for our residents. This is evident in our efforts to fund education, public safety, construct parks, and now with this initiative with the Central Virginia Regional Library,” stated Brian Stanley, Chairman of the County Board of Supervisors.
