The Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Authority (FEMA) has been updating the Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) and Flood Insurance Study (FIS) for Cumberland County, Virginia and is now in the process of conducting its preliminary review. As part of this exercise, FEMA is requesting a collaborative review between County staff, elected officials, and any interested citizens of the non-technical information related to the updated FIRM and FIS. Non-technical information includes items such as street names, stream names, corporate limits, etc. Citizen feedback is due to the County Administrator’s Office by May 18th at 3 p.m. Per FEMA’s review process, County Administration will forward all feedback to FEMA by May 22, 2022.
